Course Description

The purpose of this course is to equip experienced support workers with advanced knowledge and practical strategies to provide culturally safe, respectful, and effective care for First Nations participants. Learners will develop a deeper understanding of cultural frameworks, historical impacts, and systemic challenges that influence participant experiences.

The training emphasises trauma-informed practice, compliance with NDIS Practice Standards, and alignment with ASQA and Australian cultural safety guidelines. By the end of this session, workers will be able to integrate inclusive approaches into daily practice, strengthen trust with participants, and contribute to equitable outcomes.

Course Outcomes

By the end of this course, learners will be able to:

Define and apply cultural safety principles in advanced support practice for First Nations participants.
Identify and address risks of discrimination, exclusion, and systemic barriers affecting participant outcomes.
Implement inclusive procedures and support strategies that are responsive to cultural protocols and participant needs.
Align practice with policies, standards, and compliance frameworks, including the NDIS Practice Standards and Australian guidelines.
Promote inclusive organisational cultures that recognise cultural strengths and embed continuous improvement.
Reflect on personal practice to ensure professional growth, accountability, and culturally respectful engagement.
